“Big Buck Bunny” is a comedy short from the Blender Institute, released in 2008. A large, gentle rabbit is bullied by three rodents, and takes an elaborate, cartoonish revenge.

If you work on the web, you have probably seen it without knowing its name. Because it is free to share under a Creative Commons Attribution licence, it became the standard test video for players, browsers and streaming services, and it has been re-rendered at higher resolutions and frame rates as screens improved.

Watch it once all the way through. It is ten minutes long, gloriously silly, and better than its reputation as a test file suggests.

Every developer has seen this rabbit a thousand times testing video players.

    And it is still funny.
