Erik Satie wrote his three Gymnopédies in 1888, and the first of them has never really gone away. It turns up in films, adverts and waiting rooms, and it still sounds new.
The marking at the top of the score asks for it to be played “slowly and painfully”. Over a rocking left hand, a simple melody drifts, pauses and drifts again. Nothing is hurried; nothing is resolved too quickly.
The music is long out of copyright, and recordings released into the public domain mean anyone can listen to it, share it and use it. This one is a good place to start. Put it on at the end of a long day and let it take its time.

This was the first piece I learned on the piano. Still play it every week.
